Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Hunter Renfrow has returned to the NFL after taking a year off.
The 29-year-old pass catcher signed a one-year deal with his hometown Carolina Panthers, with NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero breaking the news before the team confirmed it.
“Clemson’s very own,” they announced in a tweet on Monday morning.

Renfrow spent the 2024 season away from the field after the Las Vegas Raiders released him last March and was, at one point, rumored to have retired.
A Pro Bowler with Vegas in 2021 after making 103 catches for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns, he played a limited role the following two seasons, making 61 receptions for 585 yards and two TDs in 27 games over that span.
Renfrow made a total of 269 catches for 2,884 yards and 17 touchdowns in 73 games over five seasons with the Raiders, starting 23 times.

The wideout was widely reported to have called curtains on his career after he was released last year, but poured cold water on the rumors with an update of his own, revealing he had been working on a return.
“Just when I thought about making a comeback I get hit with this bombshell…… guess I shouldn’t have started working out again 2 months ago lol,” he wrote in a social media post responding to the rumors.
With this development, the Panthers’ wide receiver corps now consists of Renfrow, Adam Thielen, Jalen Coker, Xavier Legette, and rookie Tetairoa McMillan, the No. 8 overall pick in this year’s draft.
Hunter Renfrow is a two-time National Champion with Clemson, helping the Tigers capture silverware in 2016 and 2018. The Raiders drafted him in the fifth round in 2019.
