Former Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers put the pen to paper on his rookie deal with the Miami Dolphins, but it’s barely over half of what he would have made if he went back to college.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported on Thursday that Quinn Ewers signed his rookie deal with the Miami Dolphins. Ewers was drafted in the seventh round (231st overall) by the AFC East club.

Spotrac reports that Ewers’ four-year rookie deal is worth $4.331 million with a $131,576 signing bonus. That’s obviously a nice payday for somebody that will be holding a clipboard for Tua Tagovailoa, but it’s also just a portion of what he would have made if he went back to college in 2025.
As reported by 247 Sports in February, Quinn Ewers rejected an $8 million NIL (name, likeness, image) deal to transfer. Ewers bet on himself and declared for the NFL Draft, but he faces a tall task in making up the additional $3.7 million he lost out on by turning pro.
Before Ewers announced his plan to return to college for another year in 2024, he was widely projected to be a first or early second-round pick. But the 2025 NFL Draft wasn’t friendly for quarterbacks, with only Cam Ward (first overall to the Tennessee Titans) and Jaxson Dart (25th overall to the New York Giants) going in the first round.

Ewers isn’t going to jump ahead of Tua Tagovailoa on Miami’s depth chart, but the Dolphins are still a good landing spot for him. Ewers will learn behind one of the game’s best young offensive-minded head coaches in Mike McDaniel, with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle headlining the star-studded offense.
Given Tagovailoa’s lengthy and worrisome injury history, it’s definitely possible that Ewers will need to play meaningful snaps as a rookie, too.
