I think the best way to describe this is “dispicable.”
Philadelphia Eagles fans have taken to Twitter to provide us all with one of the most obvious cases of racial/gender stereotyping in NFL hisotry.
On Thursday, the Eagles’ official Twitter account announced a few new hirings, including the addition of Ameena Soliman as Pro Scout — a position she is more than qualified for based on her resume. Soliman has worked in football for some time now, mainly in roles involving recruiting and player personnel. At Temple University, she was a Football Operations and Recruiting Graduate Assistant, who was responsible for maintaining their recruiting database and organizing recruiting efforts, among other things.
After that, she worked directly with the NFL as a player personnel assistant, where she would track player transactions and prepare salary reports. Then, in May 2019, she was hired as a scouting assistant and player personnel coordinator for the Eagles — with the latter being the same role that was held by the team’s current Director of Scouting Operations, Casey Weidl, before he passed the job along to Soliman.
The point of all this is, Soliman is clearly more than qualified for the Eagles’ Pro Scout job. But the fact that she’s a Muslim female had many Eagles fans lashing out because she didn’t “look the part,” without even bothering to take her actual resume into consideration.
Here’s a look at the Eagles’ announcement:
And here’s how some of the classless, racist, sexist Eagles fans responded:
Congrats, Eagles fans. You’re definitely giving Jazz fans a run for their money when it comes to the title for “Worst Fan Base in America.”
