The Green Bay Packers now have a window of opportunity to keep Aaron Rodgers happy and on the team. All they need to do is get rid of their general manager.
Per Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, Rodgers is “adamant” that he won’t return to the Packers as long as Brian Gutekunst remains with the team.
“Asked if anything could be done to repair the relationship between Rodgers and the team, the source said a reconciliation may not be possible if Gutekunst remains and that team president Mark Murphy is aware of the quarterback’s feelings about the general manager,” Robinson wrote.
The reigning league MVP was also said to be considering retirement and paying back $11.5 million this year and another $11.5 million in 2022 just to not lay for the team again.
After the draft on Thursday night, Gutekunst reiterated that they have no plans to trade Rodgers.
“He’s our quarterback. He’s our leader. We’ve been working through this for a little while now. I just think it might take some time. But he’s the guy that makes this thing go,” Gutekunst said, per Tom Pelissero.
Gutekunst added that he thinks Rodgers will play for the team again.
“I do think he’ll play for us again,” Gutekunst said.
It looks like he will, but Gutekunst won’t be around in the front office to see it.
