It’s been reported that Aaron Rodgers’ preference is to land with the Minnesota Vikings, but the NFC North club would reportedly only sign him on one condition.
The Pittsburgh Steelers remain the front-runners to land the 41-year-old quarterback, with head coach Mike Tomlin and owner Art Rooney II publicly expressing optimism that they’ll get a deal done with the four-time MVP.
Pittsburgh’s two starting quarterbacks of 2024, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, signed with the New York Giants and New York Jets, respectively. The Steelers brought back old friend Mason Rudolph in free agency, but it’s hard to envision a playoff team entering 2025 with a career backup as their starting QB:
According to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert, the Vikings would only sign Aaron Rodgers if J.J. McCarthy shows with “overwhelming evidence” that he’s not ready to start. The 2024 first-round pick missed his entire rookie year recovering from surgery on a torn meniscus:
“McCarthy would have to demonstrate overwhelming evidence this spring that he will not be ready to play this season, either because of an injury or a complete reversal of the skills and aptitude he demonstrated during his short time in training camp last summer. Consider Rodgers a break-the-glass option in case of an emergency. Otherwise, the Vikings are committed to their plan of getting McCarthy onto the field for the 2025 season.”
Sam Darnold had a career year for the Vikings in 2024, leading them to 14 wins and a Wild Card berth. Darnold left Minny and signed a lucrative three-year pact with the Seattle Seahawks worth $100.5 million.

Aaron Rodgers doesn’t appear to be in a rush to make a final decision on his playing future. Remember, this guy decided before the 2021 NFL Draft that he wanted to be traded, only to finally decide to return to the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers hinted at retirement after the 2021 season, yet here we are.
Vikings Would Be Super Bowl Contenders With Aaron Rodgers

As bad as the Jets were in 2024, Rodgers showed he can still play at a high level with 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions behind one of the league’s worst offensive lines.
The Vikings won 14 games with a journeyman QB last year. Now imagine if they had an all-time great throwing to Justin Jefferson, T.J. Hockenson and Justin Addison, to say nothing of Aaron Jones (a reunion with Rodgers?!) and a top-five defense.
