With the Seattle Seahawks 2021 season coming to an end, the focus has once again turned to the future of quarterback Russell Wilson. Since last offseason, there has been speculation that Russell and the Seahawks may part ways at the end of this season. But when asked about his future last week, Russell made it clear that he remains focused on winning games for the franchise that he has been with for the duration of his career.
“My goal is to win more Super Bowls,” Wilson said, “and my plan is to win one here. It’s that simple.”
The fan base won’t be too convinced until they actually see him under center.
Not helping matters is the cryptic tweet he sent out earlier this week that could be interpreted in numerous ways. He posted a photo of himself walking onto the field and captioned it, “Light at the end of the tunnel.”
You can’t help but to notice that his post is similar to one Tom Brady shared before he left the New England Patriots in free agency two years ago. While Wilson would have approved trades to the Raiders, Bears, Cowboys or Saints last offseason, the eight-time Pro Bowler would ideally continue his career in Seattle. At 33 years old, Wilson said he will talk with coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider in the offseason about the direction and current state of the team.
“Maybe I’ll fly to Hawaii and sit down with Pete,” Wilson said. “But yeah, of course. Pete and I obviously have a great relationship, so I’ll definitely talk to him and John and all that stuff too. We’ll chop it up and have some good times together.
“… I think we’ve always been on the same page. And that page is do whatever it takes to win.”
This season, Wilson completed 64.8% of his passes for 3,113 yards and 25 touchdowns against six interceptions in 14 games.
Wilson has been named to eight Pro Bowls and has started in two Super Bowls, winning Super Bowl XLVIII over the Denver Broncos.
