Shedeur Sanders remains hopeful amid an abysmal NFL Draft experience, and he’s also very grateful for the opportunity, despite having to wait until Day 3 to learn his fate.
The former Colorado quarterback entered the draft as a projected first-round pick, with analysts even tipping him to go top five. However, he has fallen victim to a monumental slide that will be referenced for years to come, dropping all the way to the fourth round and possibly further.
It’s been suggested that Deion Sanders’ desire to control his son’s destiny, as well as that of his brother Shilo, has a lot to do with it. But we might never know why all 32 teams decided they would not pick Shedeur in the first three rounds.
Sanders had an excellent season for the Buffaloes in 2024, leading the program to a bowl game appearance and a 9-3 record. He completed 74.0 percent of his passes for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
That did not matter on Thursday night, and the following night was no different.
“I think it’s disgusting,” ESPN’s Kiper said. “I don’t understand what the heck’s going on with this… I don’t see, outside of [not having] the rocket arm, 4.6 speed, [6’3″, 230-pound frame], what is [Shedeur Sanders] lacking? Somebody’s gonna have to explain that one to me.”

While this must be incredibly difficult to deal with, Shedeur has shown some toughness. He took to social media on Saturday with a very positive message as he thanked God for the opportunity.
“Another day another opportunity to get a chance to play the game I love,” he wrote. “Thank you GOD.”
There are concerns that Shedeur could even go undrafted after this surprising fall, but the Pittsburgh Steelers are thought to still be an option, with head coach Mike Tomlin having spoken very positively about him following his workout with the team.
His future will be clear by the end of the afternoon, with Day 3 of the NFL Draft to kick off at noon ET.
