Football fans are in shock after ESPN’s Evan Kaplan and Adam Schefter shared a mind-blowing stat about the NFL Draft on Monday.
The 2025 NFL Draft will be held in 38 days, on Apr. 25 at the Green Bay Packers’ home venue, Lambeau Field. The three-day event runs through Saturday, with 257 players to be selected over seven rounds.
Incredibly, not a single 2025 first-round pick has been traded away up to this point. As noted by Schefter and Kaplan, 2025 marks “the closest to the start of the NFL Draft” without a first-round pick being traded in 32 years.
You’d have to go back to 1993, when the Kansas City Chiefs gave up a first-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers for legendary quarterback and four-time Super Bowl champion Joe Montana, per Schefter.
So far, there have been no trades involving 1st-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. This is the closest to the start of the NFL Draft in which there have been no trades for 1st-round picks since 1993, when five days before that year’s Draft, the Chiefs traded a first-round pick to… pic.twitter.com/Ij97EiLaUd

And social media had all sorts of priceless reactions to Schefter’s post.
“Wait till Howie starts cooking again, unlike Veech who has Mahomes, Howie can rebuild very quickly, which makes him the best GM,” a user wrote.

“The trades for Deshaun Watson, Trey Lance, Russell Wilson, and Bryce Young (still TBD) all for multiple draft picks caused quite a ripple,” quipped another.

“That’s what happens when you don’t have any obvious Trey Lance’s to trade up for,” one fan said.

Before trades were made during the 2024 NFL Draft, three first-round picks had switched hands: For starters, the Chicago Bears got the No. 1 pick via the Carolina Panthers in the 2023 trade to move up for Alabama QB Bryce Young.
In March of last year, the Minnesota Vikings made a blockbuster trade with the Houston Texans to get the No. 23 pick. The Vikings later moved up to the No. 17 spot via the Jacksonville Jaguars.
And finally, the Arizona Cardinals got the No. 27 pick via the Houston Texans, who moved up a year earlier via the Redbirds to select Will Anderson Jr. at No. 3 overall.
Which Teams Could Trade Up At The 2025 NFL Draft?

The Las Vegas Raiders are certainly a team to watch with the No. 6 pick, as rookie general manager John Spytek could look to move up for a quarterback like Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders.
Several mock drafts have the Dallas Cowboys moving up to select Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty at No. 12 overall, and Jerry Jones is no stranger to wheeling and dealing at the draft.
Keep an eye on the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, who have wealthy histories of trading up to snag future franchise cornerstones.
