New Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens made a selfish business decision that has left Pittsburgh Steelers fans furious.
Last month, the Cowboys acquired George Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round pick from Pittsburgh in exchange for 2026 third and 2027 fifth-round picks. Pickens was widely floated in trade rumors heading into his contract year, and the Steelers’ blockbuster trade for ex-Seattle Seahawks star DK Metcalf all but confirmed that he was on his way out.
Before the trade, Pickens signed up to host a youth football camp for TruEdge Sports this Saturday at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh. But on Wednesday, the company announced that Pickens has backed out of the camp, and tight end Pat Freiermuth has admirably stepped up and agreed to host it instead.
According to the statement by TruEdge Sports, George Pickens initially agreed to run the camp even after he was traded to the Cowboys. They were told by Pickens’ camp that he “decided to walk back on his word and is no longer interested in attending the camp.”
Awful: George Pickens will NOT show up for his youth football camp, which was set up before he was traded to the Cowboys.

Even after the trade took place, he committed to going but decided not to show up for the kids.

Obviously a lot of people are mad at George Pickens for backing out of a kids football camp.

But they should be thanking George.
For the price of admission they got to find out exactly who he is.
And now they know not to waste their time on him again.

George Pickens bailed on his sold-out youth camp at Highmark Stadium.
Said he’d go after the trade — then backed out.
But last minute Pat Freiermuth stepped up.
Wasn’t his camp or his job — but he showed up anyway.

The 24-year-old George Pickens and the Steelers obviously didn’t depart on good terms, with the star wideout often displaying “me first” antics despite his status as their No. 1 receiver. But to bail on a camp for many enthusiastic kids is the cherry on top of their ugly divorce.
George Pickens Gets A Fresh Start With Cowboys

The relationship between Pickens and the Steelers was clearly beyond repair, and it was clear that both sides required a fresh start. In the case of Pickens, he joins a prolific Dallas Cowboys offense led by Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, a top-five receiver in football.
Lamb will generate most of the attention from opposing defenses as Dallas’ No. 1 receiver, so that should open up plenty of opportunities for Pickens to get favorable matchups and enjoy a career year.
