You can add the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the list of teams who are expected to “aggressively pursue” Deshaun Watson over the coming days.
Watson is expected to get traded some time in the near future after being cleared of all criminal charges by a grand jury. With his playing future now somewhat more clearer than it was one week earlier, the belief is that the Houston Texans will finally trade Deshaun within the next week or so.
The Carolina Panthers were one team that was said to be “aggressively” pursuing Watson:
And they aren’t the only ones, apparently.
According to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, there are many within the Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization who would like to “aggressively pursue Deshaun Watson.” It is also believed by many rival general managers that the Bucs will be a factor in the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes.
There’s also believed to be a strong connection between Watson and Bucs head coach Bruce Arians.
Like many of the other teams pursuing Watson, the Bucs now have a gaping hole at the quarterback position following the retirement of Tom Brady. However, due to their recent success, the Bucs don’t exactly have any early draft picks to offer Houston, unlike the Panthers, Seahawks and some of the other favorites to land Watson.
Can they pull off another surprise move that lands them their second big-name quarterback in three years? Only time will tell.
