ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith has floated the idea of running for President of the United States in the past, and a new poll suggests that he should seriously consider a campaign.
Smith just signed a five-year contract extension with ESPN worth $100 million. The new deal includes a reduced working schedule at the Worldwide Leader in sports, but it also allows him to freely discuss politics outside of ESPN.
Since the United States Constitution limits each president to two terms, the American people will have to vote for a successor to Donald Trump in 2028. Some believe Stephen A. Smith should run for office, and a new poll certainly expands that notion.
The popular “Pablo Torre Finds Out” show ran a poll to determine how Smith would fare against other presidential candidates. Smith got schooled in the poll against 2024 Democratic nominee and former Vice President Kamala Harris, with the latter winning 45 to 24.
Against Congresswoman, NY-14 Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Stephen A. Smith narrowly trails 32 to 28. That number falls to 31-28 against California Governor Gavin Newsome, with Smith trailing 38-34 against VP J.D. Vance.
We commissioned a legit @Rasmussen_Poll of 1,000+ voters on Stephen A. Smith for president:
— Pablo Torre Finds Out (@pablofindsout) April 4, 2025
Harris 45%
Smith 24%
AOC 32%
Smith 28%
Newsom 31%
Smith 28%
Vance 38%
Smith 34%
Our pollster concludes: "Based on what I see in these numbers, he should run."

With Smith keeping it close in the polls vs. AOC, Newsome and Vance, why shouldn’t he consider running for President of the United States? Not to mention that the 57-year-old has more than enough time to put together a campaign that would further appeal to voters.

Stephen A. Smith Wouldn’t Be The First Celebrity To Become POTUS

As the late Ronald Reagan and current President Donald Trump have shown, any high-profile celebrity can become the most powerful person in the world if they run the right campaign.
Reagan was the Governor of California before becoming President in 1981, whereas Trump had zero political experience or military service before he won his first presidential term in 2016.
So yes, someone as charismatic and entertaining as Stephen A. Smith could very well become the President if he does well on the campaign trail.
