Taylor Swift can’t seem to catch a break. Just as she gears up for another leg of her record-breaking Eras Tour, a legal twist pulled her into a courtroom drama she never signed up for.
On Friday, authorities served Taylor Swift a subpoena to testify in an escalating lawsuit involving her close friend Blake Lively and Lively’s It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni.
The situation, already tense, now places one of the world’s most recognized celebrities in the center of a legal storm. According to TMZ, Baldoni’s legal team issued the subpoena, identifying Swift as a potential witness in the case. The move follows earlier claims that a “mega-celebrity friend” influenced decisions on the film’s se- many have speculated Baldoni was referring to Swift.
Legal Team Fires Back

Swift’s legal team wasted no time in responding. In a statement provided to TMZ, a spokesperson made it clear Swift had no meaningful connection to the film beyond licensing one of her songs.
“Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film,” the spokesperson said. “She did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history.”
The film, starring Lively and Baldoni, turned into a legal battle after Lively accused her co-star of “invasive, unprofessional, and sexually inappropriate behavior.” Baldoni countersued for defamation, citing external influences in his defense. In late January, reports revealed Swift had quietly distanced herself from Lively. Now, the subpoena risks pulling her deeper into the avoided conflict.

Swift’s only tie to the film was allowing the use of her song “My Tears Ricochet.” Her team emphasized that 19 other artists also licensed music for the project, pointing to what they describe as a publicity stunt. “This document subpoena is designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case,” her spokesperson added.
Travis Kelce, Swift’s boyfriend and Kansas City Chiefs star, has remained silent. This latest development is an unwelcome detour for Swift, who has carefully navigated her public image while juggling superstardom and a grueling tour schedule.
