SUPER BOWL XLVII had plenty of storylines as the two brothers in John and Jim Harbaugh were set to face off against each other in the biggest game of the year.
By halftime, it was looking like a blowout as they Ravens had a commanding 21-6 lead. Then, Beyonce came out to perform in the Superdome and everything changed.
Early in the 3rd quarter, the lights abruptly went out in New Orleans which caused a 34-minute stoppage in playing time. Jacoby Jones would take the opening kickoff in the 2nd half all the way for a touchdown, giving the Ravens a 28-6 lead.
Tedd Ginn, who was a member of that 49ers squad back then, was quick to point out why Beyonce was the culprit behind the 49ers’ Super Bowl 47 loss to the Ravens on Feb. 3, 2013.
“I don’t think everyone remembers you were on that 2011 49ers team, which is one of the most talented teams ever,” Lefkoe said. “And then Beyonce knocks the power out, the Ravens beat you in the Super Bowl. If that power outage doesn’t happen, Ted Ginn …”
“We’d have won that,” Ginn said.
“We gave them time to re-warm up, get back right,” he said. “We were over there like, ‘Hurry up and get the power back on, man. We ready to go!'”
The 49ers would go on to score 17 points in the 3rd quarter to put themselves back into the game and within striking distance to win another title in franchise history.
They would ultimately go on to lose to the Ravens 34-31.
