Amidst the contract extension talks for Brock Purdy, the 49ers are reportedly getting trade updates for their quarterback.
Purdy is seeking a major pay raise after his first three seasons with the team. He’s aiming for a salary close to $60 million.
Based on reports that have come out, neither the 49ers nor Purdy are having a great start to contract negotiations.
NBC’s Chris Simms can’t help but wonder if the franchise should reset the clock and trade Purdy somewhere else instead of paying him an insane amount every year.
“Nobody looks at Brock Purdy and thinks he’s a top 10 quarterback in football,” Simms said on Monday’s “PFT Live.”
“Yeah, with [Kyle] Shanahan as his OC and the 49ers All-Star team around the last few years, yeah, he can look pretty damn good— he can look top 10ish. But we just saw last year … 6-11, and we’re going to pay over $50 million a year?”
“He’s a good player— we know that. … With where the 49ers are, would the Steelers want Brock Purdy as their quarterback?” the analyst posed. “It might be too late in the game to make a move like that for the 49ers now. But damn, if I had something to say about it, I would’ve been like, ‘Let’s just blow this thing up! Let’s trade him away to somebody, and let’s get somebody else at quarterback for the future and build this team again.'”

Grant Cohn of 49ers on SI took to X to share what he thinks should happen.
He thinks the team should trade Purdy to the Tennessee Titans for a second-round pick and then draft a quarterback.
“Trade Brock Purdy to the Titans for their second-round pick and draft a quarterback @49ers,” Cohn posted.

49ers Controversial Brock Purdy Contract Offer Update Leaked

The San Francisco 49ers aren’t close to getting a long-term extension done with Brock Purdy.
They may have reservations about making him the highest-paid player in franchise history.
NBC Sports Bay Area insider Matt Maiocco revealed the latest offer from the team to Purdy.
“The latest is that the 49ers have made an offer. It’s kind of sitting out there,” Maiocco said. “Brock Purdy and his camp—and I don’t know how much involved Brock is. I’m sure the agent is shielding him from a lot of this stuff. But the offer the 49ers have made isn’t one that Brock Purdy’s side is inclined to take at this point, nor will they.”
“So it’s just a matter of trying to find that right number,” Maiocco continued. “I think Purdy’s camp, it feels like the market is set. The market is what it is, and they believe that he’s earned it. You know, Jed York referred to Brock Purdy a couple of weeks ago as a top-10 quarterback, so we’ll see how this plays out.
“But right now, from my understanding, it doesn’t sound like anything’s close. There will still be, I’m sure, a few more offers exchanged here in the coming weeks. Everybody seems to be confident that it’ll get done eventually, but it’s just kind of this back and forth.”
Purdy struggled last season when players around him were dealing with injuries.
Purdy has led the 49ers to a Super Bowl and two NFC Championship games. However, the fact that the 49ers have not paid him yet shows they are not really on board with believing that he is truly the guy.
Paying Purdy between $50 and $60 million would make it extremely difficult for the 49ers to surround him with stars.
