Tom Brady can take a hit on the field, but when it comes to parenting, the former NFL star says he fumbled. The seven-time Super Bowl champion opened up about his controversial Netflix roast and how it hit a little too close to home, especially for his kids.
Appearing on the Impaulsive podcast, Brady, 47, said he enjoyed the night of laughs and friendly fire until reality hit the next day. “It was tough on my kids for sure,” he admitted. “You don’t know what to expect… I love laughing at myself. It felt like I was in the locker room.” But after speaking with his children, the fun quickly turned into regret.
“That moment I’ll never forget,” he said. “And I’ll never forget when I talked to my kids the next day, and I felt like a stake through the heart.”
Jokes Landed, But The Fallout Was Personal

Brady was the target of several brutal jabs during the Netflix special at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles last June. Comedian Nikki Glaser didn’t hold back, throwing shots at his divorce from Gisele Bündchen and her relationship with jiu-jitsu trainer Joaquim Valente. “Tom, the only thing dumber than you saying ‘yes’ to this roast was when you said, ‘Hey babe, you should try jiu-jitsu,’” Glaser quipped. She later added, “You have seven rings… well, eight now that Gisele gave hers back.”
The jokes, while crowd-pleasing, clearly hit a nerve at home. Brady admitted he didn’t consider how the content might affect his three children. “There are some things as a parent you f*** up and you don’t realize until after,” he reflected. “We’re not perfect parents… you live and you learn.”

Brady and Bündchen finalized their divorce in October 2022 after 13 years of marriage. They share two children, Benjamin, 15, and Vivien, 12. Brady also has a 16-year-old son, Jack, with actress Bridget Moynahan. According to People, sources close to Bündchen said she was unhappy with the roast and concerned about its impact on their kids. “As always, Gisele’s priority is to support her children who were affected by the irresponsible content that was broadcasted,” the source said.
Another insider told Life and Style that Bündchen wants Brady to find happiness again despite the tension. “She’s living her best life… and she hopes he finds happiness, too,” the source shared. Brady may have retired from football, but he’s still navigating the steep learning curve of fatherhood.
