Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter is drawing criticism after opting out of workouts at Colorado’s Pro Day, just weeks before the NFL Draft.
Although highly touted in the 2025 class, Hunter sparked a flurry of reactions by choosing to sit out.
Hunter, widely projected as a top-five pick thanks to his rare ability to excel at both wide receiver and cornerback, is choosing to let his college film speak for itself. However, Hunter’s absence felt glaring, with quarterback Shedeur Sanders showing his skills in front of a packed house, including reps from the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns.
Fans And Analysts Split On Hunter’s Approach

NFL insider James Palmer broke the news, reporting, “Travis Hunter is not expected to work out today at the CU Pro Day per sources. We’ll see if something changes before the start of today’s showcase in Boulder.” His report sparked a flood of reactions on social media.

Some fans questioned whether the Browns, who reportedly met with Hunter recently, advised him to skip drills to protect their potential No. 2 pick.

Others took a harsher stance. “Annoyed“? Yes” one fan wrote bluntly.
Freaking out? No

Another commented, “Great athlete, but is small and not an elite route runner… he needed to work out.”
Great athlete, but is small and not an elite route runner. Larry Fitzgeralds, Julio Jones, Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Jeremiah Smiths types are worthy of the Top 3-5 picks. He needed to work out.

Still, a growing number of supporters defend Hunter’s strategy. With elite film from both sides of the ball, many believe he has little left to prove. At Colorado, he not only handled high-pressure matchups but thrived under the spotlight, earning accolades as one of the most dynamic athletes in recent memory.
It remains unclear whether this decision will impact his draft stock. But one thing is clear: Travis Hunter is betting on his tape- and his tape alone. The NFL will make its verdict on Draft Day.
