An NFL coach provided a scathing take on Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft that kicks off tomorrow.
The 23-year-old Sanders is a consensus top-two quarterback in this year’s draft, though all signs point to Miami product Cam Ward going first overall to the Tennessee Titans. Scouts and analysts have different takes and guesses on where Sanders will land, but he’ll presumably go somewhere in the first round.
Ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero spoke to multiple coaches, executives and scouts around the league for their takes on the top 18 quarterback prospects.
One longtime assistant coach didn’t hold back in their assessment of Shedeur Sanders, citing what they called a disastrous interview with the Colorado QB:
“The worst formal interview I’ve ever been in in my life. He’s so entitled. He takes unnecessary sacks. He never plays on time. He has horrible body language. He blames teammates…But the biggest thing is, he’s not that good.”
At the start of the year, Sanders was viewed as a strong candidate to go first overall in the draft. He didn’t throw at the Scouting Combine, however, and reports then suggested that he also did poorly in some of his pre-draft interviews.
Shedeur Sanders is regarded as a boom-or-bust prospect, which isn’t at all a negative thing. Remember, the same was said about Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson before they became superstars in this league.

In his final season of college, Sanders completed 74 percent of pass attempts for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Shedeur Sanders Has Plenty Of Logical Suitors In First Round

Sanders should be a first-round pick not just because of his high ceiling, but also because of how many teams need a long-term option behind center. The New York Giants (No. 3 pick) have been widely linked to Sanders, while the Las Vegas Raiders (No. 6) and New Orleans Saints (No. 9) could also consider the Colorado product.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are still waiting on Aaron Rodgers, but they could consider Sanders as a succession plan to the four-time MVP. Ditto with the Los Angeles Rams and Matthew Stafford, who’s on a year-to-year basis now.
