The NFL Draft weekend turned ugly when Shedeur Sanders, the former Jackson State and Colorado quarterback, fell victim to a cruel prank call.
Sanders, who kept a private line strictly for NFL team communications, was misled by someone pretending to be New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis. The call promised a draft pick that never came. The emotional moment quickly turned sour and left the football world buzzing.
The National Football League announced on Sunday morning that it has launched a full investigation. “We will look into the matter,” a league spokesperson told Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. Sanders, despite the embarrassing incident, kept his composure and addressed the media, saying, “Nobody had that number.”
With all attention now firmly on the prank and not the picks, two main theories have emerged about who could be responsible.
Theories Behind The Shedeur Sanders Prank Call

The first theory points toward Jax Ulbrich, the son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich. A video circulating online shows a person in a grey hoodie who shares a resemblance with Jax. Adding fuel to the speculation, Jax’s Instagram account mysteriously disappeared after the incident gained attention. However, several details cast doubt. The Falcons were not looking for a quarterback, and Jeff Ulbrich would not have had access to Sanders’ private number.
Moreover, Jax was reportedly a student at Berry College last semester. Observers noted that the person seen on video wore a sweatshirt from a different school, not Berry College. Even though it is possible that Jax could be an Ole Miss fan attending Berry, no clear link has been established yet.

The second theory goes by a different name. Sydney Schoen, daughter of New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen, is currently studying at the University of Mississippi. Joe Schoen spent considerable time with Sanders during the pre-draft process. Sanders even participated in a private workout for the Giants. Despite showing interest, New York passed on Sanders in favor of Jaxson Dart after an underwhelming interview.
Some have suggested that Sydney might have leaked Sanders’ phone number, though no direct evidence confirms this. As of now, neither Jax Ulbrich nor Sydney Schoen have proven responsible. The NFL’s investigation will aim to uncover the truth behind one of the most uncomfortable moments of this year’s Draft.
