For the first time since the trade over two months ago, Jerry Jones has spoken about the Luka Doncic trade.
The Dallas Mavericks trading Luka was a culture-changing movement that has changed the landscape of the city and the Western Conference.
In early February, the Dallas Mavericks made a trade that was criticized more than any move Jerry Jones has made since taking over the Dallas Cowboys.
The Mavericks shocked the sports world by sending Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in a package that included Anthony Davis.
Jones called Doncic a “personal friend” and said he’s “a big fan of the Mavericks.”
“The world knows that I’ve got my hands full thinking about what we think about over here, much less trying to figure out [the Mavs],” Jones said. “I look at the Mavericks through an entertainment eye. I know Luka, was a personal friend, and [he] watched a lot of games with us. And hoped he would have been able to watch some more games with us. Know his family pretty well.”

Jones also told reporters that his wife, Gene, cried when she heard Luka Doncic was being sent to the Lakers. He went on to add that his wife, Eugenia Jones, “lives and dies with that basketball.”
“Frankly, you say ‘how could that happen?’ I’ve got a little bit – probably better understanding how something like that could happen,” Jones said.
Mavs GM Nico Harrison Breaks Silence on Luka Doncic Being Traded

Luka Doncic is gone from the Mavs and is unlikely to return after he was traded. Dallas received a package that included Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round draft pick in return.
Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison, who has been on the receiving end of nonstop backlash, admitted that he miscalculated the popularity of Luka among the team’s fanbase before the shocking trade with the Los Angeles Lakers in February.
The 52-year-old has consistently defended the move, but on Monday admitted that the love for Doncic from Mavs fans did come as a surprise to him.
“I did know that Luka was important to the fanbase,” Harrison told reporters during his season-ending news conference. “I didn’t quite know to what level.”
For him not to know that ahead of deciding on that trade just shows how disconnected the Mavs front office has become from the fan base now that Mark Cuban is no longer in charge of the team’s day-to-day operations.
“We feel that’s a championship-caliber team and we would have been winning at a high level and that would have quieted some of the outrage,” Harrison said.
“And so unfortunately we weren’t able to do that, so it just continued to go on and on.”
As for Luka, he told ESPN recently that he threw and cracked his phone when he first heard about the trade, adding that he felt “sadness mostly” and that he “felt like my heart was broken, honestly.”
