Evander Kane was reportedly assaulted in Vancouver just days after being traded to the Canucks.
The NHL veteran was looking to celebrate his homecoming with a night out, but ended up in an altercation that left him in need of medical attention.
Sources note that Kane was standing outside Pierre’s Champagne Lounge with a group of friends when another group of individuals attacked them. The new Canucks winger required medical attention after the assault.
Details regarding his injuries have not been reported, though he is said to be in stable condition.
According to witnesses, Kane did not provoke the assault, and footage from a nearby surveillance camera is expected to show that he did nothing wrong. Meanwhile, the Vancouver Police Department has begun investigations; no arrests have been announced at the time of writing.

Evander Kane’s Homecoming Ruined By Unprovoked Attack

Evander Kane was traded from the Edmonton Oilers to the Vancouver Canucks on June 25, with the Oilers moving him in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick.
The winger announced the trade himself on social media, exuding excitement, having grown up in the city and supporting the Canucks.
Kane, the fourth overall pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, played junior hockey with the Vancouver Giants.
He was expected to play a significant role in the team’s offense, but there’s now concern over his health and the psychological impact an assault in the city might have on his homecoming.
The 32-year-old has not addressed the matter, nor have the Canucks. However, league sources expect one or both of the parties to issue a statement at some point.
Additional details should come to light as the investigation progresses.
