Barstool Sports owner and founder Dave Portnoy is awfully confident that it’s Connor McDavid’s time to reach the mountaintop.
On Saturday afternoon, Dave Portnoy revealed on X/Twitter that he placed a $50,000 bet on the Edmonton Oilers to defeat the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final. Portnoy took the +550 odds of Edmonton winning in six games, so the potential payout is a jaw-dropping $325,000:
People thought McDavid touching the trophy was a jinx? Bad news. I’m on the Oilers in 6. #oilersin6 pic.twitter.com/yRJt4tOoYw

The 2025 Stanley Cup Final marks a rematch of last year’s epic series. After coughing up a 3-0 series lead, the Panthers narrowly held on for a close 2-1 win in Game 7 to clinch the franchise’s first Stanley Cup championship.
One year later, the best player on the planet and his Oilers get a chance at revenge. The oddsmakers are essentially on this series, with different sportsbooks listing separate winners here.
This also marks the first Stanley Cup Final repeat showdown since 2009, when the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings met for the second consecutive year. After losing it all in 2008, Sidney Crosby and the Pens won 2-1 in game 7 to net the franchise’s first title in 17 years.
Game 1 goes on Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. EST in Edmonton.

Dave Portnoy Also Bet Big On The Oilers Last Year

At the start of last year’s playoffs, Dave Portnoy placed a $150,000 bet on the Oilers (+700 odds) to win the 2024 Stanley Cup for a $1.2 million payout. One year later, Portnoy is still rolling with the Oilers to see if they’ll finally net him that lucrative payout.
