On Tuesday night, New York Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk appeared to take a skate blade directly to his eye from the Montreal Canadiens’ Artturi Lehkonen who was falling down to the ice in front of him.
Boychuk went down to the ground in obvious pain and eventually got up and ran to the tunnel holding his face.
According to David Boychuk — Johnny’s brother — he’s going to get several stitches, but appears he avoided injury to his eye.
According to Joe Haggerty, a reporter with NBC Sports, Boychuk’s eye avoided a direct cut, although his eyelid was damaged.
Former NHL player turned broadcaster Colby Cohen was informed of the same thing.
Montreal would go on to win the game 6-2.
