Gabby Thomas wants her money, and she’s not afraid to stir things up.
The track star has gone public about the $12.6 million in unpaid prize money being held from her following promises from Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track series.
Johnson, an Olympic legend, founded the league in 2024. It kicked off its inaugural season this April, but it appears to be sinking.
Thomas ran in three meets, in Kingston, Miami, and Philadelphia. She and other athletes were told they’d be paid appearance fees and prize money of up to $100,000. However, despite wins in the 200m and podium finishes in the 400m, she hasn’t been paid, and neither have the other competitors.

Gabby Thomas got straight to the point.
“So dope!! pls pay me😭” she wrote in the comments.
This situation has sparked some controversy in the track and field community, though Johnson’s team has claimed that all payments will be made by September. It’s not hard to see why the athletes are hesitant to believe this.
Thomas, as well as others, including Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, are still waiting on the funds they worked for, while some have even reached out to World Athletics to get said body involved.
