The family involved in Thursday afternoon’s tragic Hudson River helicopter crash had an interesting link to one of the most famous soccer teams in the world.
Agustin Escobar, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three children were all killed in Thursday’s aviation mishap, with the pilot of the helicopter they were touring in also meeting his end.
The Spanish family was on a sightseeing tour to celebrate the birthday of one of their daughters when the chopper broke apart above the Hudson and plunged into the water.
The Daily Mail reports that Camprubi was related to two former FC Barcelona presidents. The outlet notes that she was the great-granddaughter of Augusti Montal Galobart, who was in charge of the club from 1956 to 1952.
Galobart’s son, also Augusti Montal, ran the Catalan outfit from 1969 to 1977 and notably recruited legend Johan Cruyff, who helped them win the league title in 1974.
