A young Lionel Messi fan thought he finally got his opportunity to meet his idol, but perhaps got overzealous and found himself being manhandled by security instead.
Messi, who made his name at Spanish club Barcelona, is widely considered to be the greatest soccer player ever. He now plies his trade in the MLS with David Beckham’s Inter Miami after winning multiple titles in Europe with Barca and French side Paris Saint-Germain.
While he’s no longer playing top-tier soccer, the Argentinian is idolized, especially in the States, where he’s considered a titan, especially after leading his country to World Cup triumph in 2022.
The 37-year-old was at Inter Miami’s Academy Dreams Cup at Florida Blue Training Center over the weekend, attending with teammate Luis Suarez, whom he’s reportedly starting a soccer team with in South America.
Overzealous Lionel Messi Fan Gets Too Close For Comfort

Messi was seated under a tent when a youngster wearing his No. 10 jersey ran toward him, causing a security guard to fall over while trying to stop him.
The fan appeared to hand Messi a marker in an apparent attempt to acquire an autograph, but another guard stepped between them, pushing him back and holding him before moving him away from the tent. Staffers were not content to let him walk away on his own, which he tried to do, and led him off the field rather roughly.

Another fan took advantage of the situation to approach Messi while all the above was going on, but still got shoved away by the player’s security team.
This is nothing new for Messi, who has been the object of people’s attention everywhere he’s gone for several years. It’s really run-of-the-mill.
