The soccer community is mourning the death of Liverpool star Diogo Jota this Thursday following the shocking events that claimed his life, as well as his brother’s.
Jota, a Portuguese forward who spent five seasons with the Reds, was the victim of a car accident in Spain in the wee hours of Thursday morning, with his brother Andre also killed in the crash.
Diogo was 28, and his brother was 26.
The accident comes just 10 days after he married his childhood sweetheart and described it just yesterday as “a day we will never forget.”
According to reports, Jota’s Lamborghini went off the road while he was overtaking another vehicle on the A-52 near Zamora in northwestern Spain, close to the Portugal border. It’s said that a tire blew out during the overtake maneuver, causing the supercar to run off the road and burst into flames.
Emergency services were summoned to the scene but could not save the brothers, who were only identified by the vehicle’s license plate.

Jota’s international teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo, said his death “makes no sense” and that he would be dearly missed. The players celebrated lifting the Nations League together less than a month ago after beating Spain.
He also won the Premier League title with Liverpool last season.
Diogo Jota’s Final Social Media Post Is Heartbreaking

As mentioned above, Jota was a newlywed, having only recently married Rute Cardoso. They had three children together, and he described himself as a lucky man in an Instagram post on Wednesday after they tied the knot on June 22.
Rute had shared more wedding photos, captioning them “My dream come true.”
Jota commented by saying he was “the lucky one.”
The tragedy has prompted widespread mourning in Portugal and the UK, with Liverpool fans gathering outside the team’s home stadium, Anfield, to leave flowers, wreaths, and other tributes, including the player’s No. 20 jersey.
Our hearts go out to Diogo’s wife and family, his loved ones, and teammates.
May he rest in peace.
