Germany and Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala sustained a devastating injury while facing Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup on Saturday.
The new-look tournament is perhaps not as bad as critics predicted. Still, there have been notable downsides, including annoying weather delays and now a career-threatening injury to one of soccer’s most talented young players.
Musiala, 22, had made his first competitive start for Bayern in April, but it would be cut short by a frightening collision with PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma during stoppage time at the end of the first half.
The coming together left his ankle twisted at the most unnatural angle, bringing even Donnarumma to tears when he realized the extent of the injury.
Some of Musiala’s teammates could not look at him, purposely turning away, while the match broadcasters cut away from the harrowing scene.
You can see it in the video below, but we warn that it’s graphic.

Jamal Musiala Facing Several Months Out

Subsequent reports indicate that the midfielder is dealing with a fractured fibula and several torn ligaments, which should leave him sidelined for four to five months.
The development comes as a massive setback for Bayern, who were looking forward to having Musiala lead their midfield next season after a muscle injury prematurely ended his previous campaign.
We wish Jamal a speedy recovery.
