Luka was born in Ljubljana and was a basketball star from a young age. He won multiple EuroLeague awards and was selected to the EuroLeague 2010–20 All-Decade team. He was selected as the third overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks and was immediately traded to the Dallas Mavericks. Doncic broke multiple Mavericks records at just 18 years old and was awarded the NBA Rookie of the Year award.
In the 2019-20 season, Doncic was selected for the NBA All-Star Game and was the youngest European player to start in an All-Star game. In 2021, Doncic signed a five-year $207 million rookie extension with the Mavericks, the largest in NBA history.
