Naomi Osaka showed off some ugly lesions following her exit from the first round of the French Open and might be looking to take another break from tennis.
The Japanese star shared a photo of her hand this Thursday, claiming she isn’t able to fully bend her fingers because they have vesicles on them.
The 27-year-old lost to Paula Badosa in three sets on Monday and revealed afterwards that she’s been dealing with the issue since the Italian Open, blaming the friction caused by the clay courts.
She also expressed frustration via Instagram, saying she felt “sick of this” and desired a break, but she still ended up training a day later because she gets anxiety if she doesn’t work out.

Naomi Osaka Feels Like She’s Letting People Down

Naomi Osaka was pretty upset following her defeat to Badosa this week. She admitted that her recent losses have taken a toll on her, and she feels like she’s letting the folks around her down.
“I think as time goes on, I feel like I should be doing better,” Osaka said. “I hate disappointing people. So, like, even with [coach] Patrick [Mouratoglou], I was thinking this just now, but like, he goes from working with, like, the greatest player ever to, like, ‘what the f*** this is?’ You know what I mean?”
Osaka, who cried during her post-match press conference, has experienced a challenging comeback following the birth of her daughter, Shai, whom she had with rapper Cordae in 2023.
The loss marked another early exit for Naomi, who continues to struggle on clay courts. Despite the latest result, she has shown sparks of brilliance in recent tournaments and will have an opportunity to bounce back at Wimbledon next month.
