It was a night Angel Reese will want to forget, but the internet made sure it won’t be easy.
The Chicago Sky forward found herself under the microscope after a tough outing against the New York Liberty, and things only got worse when conservative sports commentator Clay Travis tossed in a six-figure challenge to twist the knife.
The moment? A now-viral clip from the first quarter where Reese missed four field goal attempts in just seconds, two of which Liberty star Jonquel Jones cleanly blocked. Reese then gave up the possession and kicked the ball out to the perimeter.
By the final buzzer, she had gone 0-for-8 from the field, hit just 2-of-6 free throws, committed five turnovers, and ended with a rough -25 in plus-minus. Her only saving grace was pulling down 12 rebounds.
Clay Travis Pounces With $100K Call-Out

Clay Travis, founder of OutKick, saw an opportunity and didn’t miss. He publicly challenged Reese to a one-on-one, half-court basketball game for $100,000. “Hey @Reese10Angel me vs you half court to 15 by 1’s and 2’s. $100k to the winner, more than you make in an entire WNBA season,” Travis wrote on social media. “We put the game on pay per view and raise millions for charity of winner’s choice. You in?”

The offer quickly stirred debate online. While some fans slammed Travis for what they called a publicity stunt, others saw it as a pointed jab following Reese’s difficult performance.
The challenge arrived just days after Reese was already facing online criticism following a heated on-court moment with Caitlin Clark. That incident sparked national attention and even prompted the WNBA to launch a racism probe into fan behavior directed at Clark during that game.
On the same night Reese struggled, Clark also had a quiet showing in her rematch against the Atlanta Dream. She went 4-for-11 from the field and missed all five of her three-point attempts, but the Indiana Fever rallied for an 81-76 win, improving to 2-1.
Travis wasn’t the only public figure to take a swipe. Barstool’s Dave Portnoy, who has sparred with Reese online before, also chimed in after the Liberty game. The pile-on reflects how Reese has become one of the WNBA’s most polarizing figures, on and off the court.
With the season still young, Reese will have plenty of chances to bounce back. But for now, she faces not just criticism, but a $100K challenge that’s keeping the spotlight right where she doesn’t want it.
