Barstool Sports founder and president Dave Portnoy took to X/Twitter to reveal what he said to Angel Reese during Saturday’s season opener between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky.
Dave Portnoy had a front row seat for the highly-anticipated game between Angel Reese’s Sky and Caitlin Clark’s Fever. The game itself was hardly exciting with Indiana cruising to a 93-58 blowout victory, but there was no shortage of headlines that followed.
In the third quarter of the contest, Clark picked up a flagrant foul for fouling Reese during a shot attempt. Reese went over to confront Clark, but was restrained before getting her free throw attempt.
In the clip below, Portnoy (bottom right of the screen in the red jersey with No. 22) can be seen celebrating when Reese misses her free throw:

On X, Dave Portnoy claimed that he simply screamed, “Ball don’t lie” to Reese when she missed her free throw. Portnoy also accused the WNBA of wanting to “cuff and stuff” him:
To clarify I yelled “Ball Don’t Lie” when Angel missed the tech. WNBA wants to cuff and stuff me for it. https://t.co/ooLr95bipB

The WNBA announced that they’re investigating racist and harmful language directed at Angel Reese during Saturday’s game. Reese reposted a TikTok video from a user who said she’s “no longer safe” in Indiana.
Saturday’s opener marked the first of five regular-season meetings between the Sky and the Fever. They’ll next square off in Chicago on June 7, followed up by another game in Windy City on July 27.
Dave Portnoy Has Taken One Side In The Angel Reese-Caitlin Clark Rivalry

Portnoy is a longtime critic of Reese, and a giant Clark supporter. Portnoy went on a massive Twitter rant against Reese for taunting Clark after LSU defeated Iowa in the 2023 women’s basketball national championship game.
Dave Portnoy is also unapologetic about his vocal dislike of Reese, who had a strong season debut with 12 points, 17 rebounds and one assist.
