WNBA legend Sue Bird is happy to see the league getting attention from NBA Centel, the popular parody account known for its fake but funny headlines. On Cameron Brink’s Straight to Cam Podcast, Bird said being featured by Centel is suitable for the WNBA.
She mentioned a viral post from Centel that joked Sparks’ practice was delayed because Brink and Kelsey Plum wore the same outfit. The post got over 11 million views. While some fans were upset, Bird said the humor shows the league is gaining relevance.
“It’s good, though,” Bird said. “The last year-plus has been crazy with the social media takes around the WNBA.”Add on the 20-plus years of people just like s****ing on us all the time. So, to be on a parody account, it sounds weird, but it’s actually a good sign. We’re a part of the joke, not the butt of the joke.”

Brink agreed, “calling it a dub,” and said most WNBA players enjoy the jokes.
NBA Centel, which launched in 2022, appreciated Bird’s reaction and tweeted, “SUE BIRD APPROVES OF GETTING CENTEL’D.” The page continued making WNBA jokes, adding to the growing buzz around the league.

Bird recently shared a lighthearted memory of the only time she played one-on-one against Diana Taurasi during their years overseas. Speaking on Straight to Cam with Dearica Hamby and Cameron Brink, Bird joked that if she were taller, she would have beaten Taurasi, who fired back by saying she’d win if she were faster.
Their banter showed the deep respect and competitive spirit between the two legends. Bird is 5 feet 9 inches tall, while Taurasi is 6 feet 6 inches tall.
Both players returned as all-time greats. Bird owns the WNBA record for assists and games played, while Taurasi holds the all-time scoring record.
