Some celebrate the Fourth with fireworks. Others with hot dogs and cold beers. Sophie Cunningham? She did all three and made sure Instagram knew it.
The 28-year-old Indiana Fever guard didn’t just light up the holiday with energy. She lit up fans’ feeds, too.
Cunningham posted a festive Fourth of July photo on Friday, captioning it: “Happy fourth 🇺🇸 hug your ppl tight, drink a cold one, and blast Toby Keith all day for me.” It didn’t take long before the comments section turned into a party of its own.
Cunningham, who joined the Fever earlier this year in a four-team trade, has wasted no time making her presence felt on the basketball court and online.
Sophie Cunningham Brings The Fire On The Court

Cunningham stepped up while Caitlin Clark rested during the Fever’s last two games. Indiana picked up back-to-back wins without their star rookie, including a dominant 81–54 win over the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday. That followed their Commissioner’s Cup title win over the Lynx earlier in the week. Cunningham didn’t just blend in during the run, she brought grit, hustle, and energy to every possession.

Through her first 12 games in an Indiana jersey, she’s averaging 5.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.0 steals in just over 22 minutes per night. But stats don’t tell the whole story. Her defense, leadership, and edge have earned her a firm spot in the Fever’s rotation.
“She’s just one of those players who brings something extra,” head coach Christie Sides said after the Cup win. “Intensity, toughness- she sets the tone.”
As the Fever sit third in the Eastern Conference with a 9-8 record, July looms large. A key home game on July 11 against the Atlanta Dream and two tough matchups with the Liberty on the road will test their momentum. With Clark’s health in focus and playoff position on the line, Cunningham’s role could grow even more critical.
But for now, fans are still buzzing over that Instagram post. And while Indiana chases wins, Cunningham reminded everyone that personality matters as much as points.
She’s not just here to play. She’s here to show up.
