Jim Ross is ready for the fight of his life, and he’s doing it with the same grit that made him a legend behind the microphone.
Just two weeks after announcing he’s been diagnosed with colon cancer, the 73-year-old Hall of Famer posted an emotional update from the hospital Monday morning, sharing a photo with one of his daughters and writing, “Checked n and ready to kick this cancer out on its ass.”
Ross, affectionately known as “JR” to wrestling fans around the world, confirmed earlier this month that doctors found colon cancer and scheduled him for surgery. The longtime voice of wrestling made it clear he’s not backing down, and his determination is already lifting spirits throughout the community.
Fans Rally Around The Voice Of Wrestling

The moment JR revealed his diagnosis, support poured in from every corner of the wrestling world. AEW star Will Ospreay and veteran Matt Hardy were among the first to comment with messages of love and encouragement. Fans quickly followed, flooding social media with well-wishes and emotional notes.

Jim Ross has overcome more than a few health battles in recent years. In May 2023, he revealed that doctors rushed him to the hospital due to shortness of breath. He also battled Bell’s Palsy and previously had surgery to remove a cancerous mass from his hip. Now facing colon cancer, JR remains defiant and focused on recovery.
AEW released a statement offering its full support, saying, “All Elite Wrestling joins fans around the world in sending love and support to Jim Ross as he battles colon cancer. J.R. is a valued member of the AEW family, and we stand beside him during his journey toward recovery.”
Ross, who joined AEW in 2019 after a legendary run with WWE from 1993 to 2013, hasn’t been on TV for over a month. There’s no word yet on when he might return, but if his fighting spirit says anything, it’s that he’ll be back.
From the iconic “By God, he’s broken in half!” to his love for Oklahoma Sooners football, Jim Ross has never been short on passion. And right now, that same passion is fueling him as he takes the biggest fight head-on, with millions cheering him on.
