WWE Superstar John Cena is opening up like never before.
In an exclusive interview with People and as part of the ‘Sunscreen You Can’t See’ campaign, Cena hopes to promote the importance of sun safety alongside dermatologist and skin cancer surgeon Dr. Neera Nathan.
The 47-year-old, 16-time World Champion, revealed that he was previously diagnosed with skin cancer.
Cena said he moved to Florida in his 20s and “fell in love with the sun,” but again, he wasn’t big on sunscreen.
“I was stubborn,” Cena said. “I didn’t want to have a routine, and I also thought the problem would never reach me. And it’s one of those things where I had a ton of exposure with minimal protection, and it caught up with me.”
It wouldn’t be until years later, and a trip to the dermatologist, that he would change his perspective.
“I went to a dermatologist and got a skin checkup and had a cancerous spot removed from my right pec,” John Cena said.

He said that after he had the spot removed, his dermatologist called him and told him to come back in.
“The stats on this are overwhelming, but as much as I learn about them, those numbers don’t mean anything,” he said. “I think the best way to hammer home a point is human-to-human connection. And I as a human can tell you: Man, that phone call’s not what you want to get because it is unpredictable and you don’t know how bad it’s going to be.
John Cena then revealed that you could actually go back to some of his older WWE appearances and see “a white polka dot on the side of my chest and on my shoulder.”
“A year later, I went back and had another spot removed closed to my right shoulder,” he said. “It shows up like a white polka dot on the side of my chest and on my shoulder. If you watch WWE, you’ll be able to see them.”
“I think the best way to hammer home a point is human-to-human connection. And I as a human can tell you: Man, that phone call’s not what you want to get because it is unpredictable and you don’t know how bad it’s going to be.”

Wrestling fans have been completely shocked by John Cena’s heel turn at Elimination Chamber last month.
After Cena won the men’s Elimination Chamber match to earn a WWE Championship bout against Rhodes at WrestleMania 41, he would shock the world by attacking Rhodes and aligning himself with The Rock.
Over the past few weeks on Raw, Cena has blamed the fans for the way they have treated him over the years.
