After a one-year trial, it seems like the NFL is done with reviewing pass interference calls. Less than a year after the NFL made the decision that thrilled fans, the NFL’s competition committee will not put the pass interference replay rule vote to owners.
This past Friday, the league released the list of rule proposals that clubs will vote on during upcoming owners meetings and the PI rule was not included among them. It seems possible that the league will abandon it altogether.
Per The Washington Post’s Mark Maske:
According to NFL Network’s Judy Battista, of the 29 teams asked about making the rule permanent, only eight said yes, while 21 said no. Three elected to not respond at all.
The rule was put in place after the controversial no-call between the Los Angeles Rams and the New Orleans Saints in the 2018 NFC Championship game that would’ve changed the outcome of the contest if made reviewable during that contest.

Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman clearly hit Saints wide receiver Tommylee Lewis on a fourth-quarter play and yet, nothing was called by refs.
Instead of the replay rule, the league could be considering implementing a sky judge next season. After watching how successful it could be in the AAF and XFL, the league’s competition committee is now in favor of it.
