Lamar Jackson was recently seen running routes on asphalt with fans, which drew some criticism because of the health risks and how he in line to getting a huge extension.
FOX Sports’ Shannon Sharpe was one of those critics, saying Jackson shouldn’t mess his money up.
“Lamar, you’re on the verge of getting generational wealth,” Sharpe said, via BR Gridiron. “Why risk it? It’s not worth it. Don’t mess your money up.”
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling saw those comments and offered up a defense of the quarterback’s actions:
“Because he wants to go back and bet the guy that he never saw as a kid,” Valdes-Scantling responded. “…Could change a kids life. Bigger than chasing a check when you are a genuine person that cares about the youth.”
Jackson is currently trying to work out a contract extension with the Ravens, but it’s looking like there won’t be a deal done before training camp.
In 2020, Jackson threw for 2,757 yards, 26 touchdowns and just nine interceptions while rushing for 1,005 yards and seven touchdowns. The Ravens were the No. 5 seed in the AFC but after beating the Tennessee Titans in the first round, but their season came to an end with a 17-3 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
