The first brawl of the 2021 MLB season went down on Saturday between the Reds and the Cardinals.
It all began when Nick Castellanos stood over, flexed and jawed at St. Louis pitcher Jake Woodford after scoring, which set off a series of scuffles between the Cincinnati Reds and Cardinals.
Castellanos was the only player ejected.
A wild pitch sent Castellanos running home, which made him bump into Woodford, who took the throw from catcher Yadier Molina at the plate. As Castellanos began walking away, Molina rushed up and tapped him from behind, which ultimately made benches clear.
Following the game, Castellanos had a great quote about Molina.
“That guy could punch me in the face and I’d still ask him for a signed jersey,” Castellanos said following the game, via C. Trent Rosecrans.
That is just simply awesome.
