The Dream Team that took the 1992 Barcelona Olympics by storm has become a topic of discussion yet again after Isiah Thomas brought it up during an interview that he thinks him snubbing Bulls legend Michael Jordan of a handshake after a Eastern Conference Finals matchup led to him being left off the team.
Reggie Miller outright agreed with that assessment.
Patrick: Do you think Michael single-handily said ‘I don’t want Isiah on The Dream Team’?
Miller: Yes. Isiah Thomas should have been on that ’92 Dream Team. And people ask ‘who would you have taken off?’ — John Stockton, Clyde Drexler — one of those two guys. Christian Laettner. One of those three guys. Isiah Thomas should have been on that team.
John Stockton, Clyde Drexler, and Christian Laettner are likely going to be upset at Miller choosing them as the ones that should’ve been off the team in favor of Thomas, but this is what happens when you start speaking on players who got snubbed off of a team.
Out of those three, only Laettner is the clear option as he had yet to a second of professional basketball by the time he was called up to make that team. He was the only player on the Dream Team is not looked at as a star during his NBA career.
Miller, who had many battles with Michael Jordan during his career, was then asked if it was true the Bulls legend had the Pistons rival snubbed.
“I wouldn’t say for a fact, but those are the unwritten rules that people talk about,” said Miller. “I wouldn’t say it’s MJ alone.”
Patrick then wanted to know how it would be possible Thomas could be snubbed from a team that was coached by his very own Pistons head coach Chuck Daly:
“It had nothing to do with Chuck Daly because at the time, this was commissioner Stern putting the team together,” said Miller about the Bulls, Pistons, IT and MJ dynamic.”
“I wouldn’t say he said ‘these are the guys I want.’ I believe MJ probably said ‘Okay, I’ll do it, but Isiah cannot be on this team.”
We might never get the true answer on what really happened that led to Isiah being off the team.
