This is not ideal way Russell Westbrook wanted to find out he was no longer with his original team, but at least it happened in front of fans.
On Thursday night, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski dropped an unexpected bomb that the OKC Thunder had traded Russell Westbrook to the Houston Rockets. At the time that he was traded, Westbrook was in the midst of hosting a comedy show in Tulsa, Oklahoma as part of a charity event to benefit the “Light It Up” Foundation.
The eight-time All Star took some time to thank everyone for coming out, not officially speaking on the trade as he likely knew everyone in the room had already heard about it.
During the 2019 season, Westbrook averaged a triple-double for a 3rd-consecutive season all while averaging 22.9 points to go along with 11.1 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game.
The Thunder finished 49-33 on the year, but would be eliminated by the Portland Trail Blazers in five games in the first round.
After trading Paul George to the Clippers, the franchise made the decision to go into full rebuild mode by acquiring multiple draft picks from the Clippers and the Rockets.
