It feels like forever since we have seen John Wall play in a professional basketball game as he and the Houston Rockets have been looking to part ways for some time now.
Wall hasn’t played in an NBA game since April 23, 2021. But that “streak” may be coming close to a conclusion. Wall and the Houston Rockets are expected to again talk about a buyout. After he exercised his player option last week, Wall is owed $47.4 million for next season in the final year of his contract.
As for potential destinations, the Los Angeles Clippers and Miami Heat look like the early contenders.
“Interest in Wall from the Clippers and Heat, if he can finally make his way onto the open market, has been mentioned for months,” NBA insider Marc Stein wrote.
After missing a second full season in the last three years, Wall is finally ready to move and continue his career.
Should the Rockets be unable to find a trade partner, Wall is expected to give back some portion of that $47.4 million salary to gain his freedom.
In 40 games during the 2020-21 season, Wall averaged 20.6 points, 6.9 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 32.2 minutes per game.
