Given the circumstances surrounding the coronavirus pandemic and how it has affected multiple sports around the country, it seems like its just a matter of time before it gets to football.
Kirk Herbstreit is one person who thinks the NFL and NCAA college football season should be postponed. However, a report dropped this past Friday seemed to suggest there is some talk of moving the season up.
Michael Smith of the Sports Business Journal reports that an “alternative” scenario could come into play where the 2020 college football season starts in July and ends by September just in case there just might be a second wave of COVID_19 in the fall.
“Every other scenario has the season starting later in the fall, at a time when the coronavirus could be returning for another round of infections as the cool weather returns and a vaccine most likely unavailable until 2021. But staging an abbreviated college football season in the summer presents an opportunity to play games when the warm weather could help prevent the spread of the virus.”
Dr. Fauci has went on record to state that he thinks the coronavirus might be seasonal, which would push sports leagues to having zero action in the fall and winter.
As of right now, everything is just a wait and see because nobody is 100% sure of just how bad COVID-19 can get as more and more people continue to test positive around the country.
