The No. 8 ranked Clemson Tigers suffered a gut-wrenching 31-30 loss at home to the unranked South Carolina Gamecocks, all but ending any remaining hopes they had at possibly qualifying for the College Football Playoff National Championship.
There will be plenty of plays that the Tigers will want back. They turned the ball over three times on the day, including a fumble on an atrocious special teams trick play attempt.
Clemson was leading 16-7 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half. The defense forced a crucial punt to seemingly give the offense a chance to increase the lead. Except, the Tigers gave the ball right back on this brutal trick play and fumble by Phil Mafah.
As always, social media had some hilarious reactions to one of the worst trick plays you will ever see in the NCAA.
The mistake proved to be costly, too. Spencer Rattler scored on a four-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to two points. Though Clemson responded with a touchdown drive of their own to move the lead back to nine, they were outscored 17-3 by the Gamecocks in the second half.WANT MORE FROM TOTALPROSPORTS?
