Broadcasters are making some insane money these days. If Al Michaels goes to Amazon, he is in line to make some insane money.
Andrew Marchand of The New York Post tweeted that Michaels to Amazon is now “at half yard line,” and that Michaels is expected to call Amazon’s full 16-game package this year.
The money he would be making would be massive.
Michaels would be the play-by-play announcer of Thursday Night Football as Amazon is going to be the exclusive carrier of that game for next season.
Michaels’ impending move is just one of many in NFL broadcasting this season, as noted by Andrew Bucholtz of Awful Announcing.
“It’s notable that other networks have been discussed around Michaels as well, especially Fox after Joe Buck left for ESPN to join Troy Aikman,” Bucholtz wrote. “However, much of the recent discussion there has been focused on the idea of Fox elevating ‘internal favorite’ Kevin Burkhardt to the top football play-by-play role. And now it seems like Michaels will be headed to Amazon as long discussed. However, as Super Bowl viewers well know, just getting into the final few yards doesn’t guarantee a touchdown.”
Michaels was in charge to broadcast Sunday Night Football. However, he got pushed out by NBC. Mike Tirico took Al Michaels’s position on ESPN.
