The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released Antonio Brown back in January and his career has been up in the air ever since his sideline outburst where he could be seen tossing off his gear and running off the field during a Jets game.
Even still, Brown thinks he is one of the elite players at his position and wants to be paid like one.
Players like Tyreek Hill, Christian Kirk, and others have all received big contracts at the wide receiver position this offseason, and Brown wants to add himself to that list.
“I still feel like I can put up big numbers, and I see what these guys are getting paid,” Brown said. “I just wonder why my value isn’t being upheld as the same.”
While there’s no denying the production Brown has put up over his impressive career, his history of off-field incidents might be the biggest reason NFL teams haven’t been willing to pay him top dollar. Brown played each of his two seasons in Tampa Bay on one-year deals, perhaps because not many teams were willing to bring a guy on who had issues with the Patriots and Raiders that led to his release after playing one game and zero games for the other.
After winning a chip with Tom Brady on the Buccaneers, NFL fans thought that Brown had finally mellowed out. It’s clear the real him would soon come out and it did in a huge way. No front office wants that type of distraction and will not put millions of dollars at his disposal hoping he would act accordingly.
