
Things are not trending upwards for Cody Parkey.
Being called on to hit a 43-yard field goal to send the Chicago Bears to the Divisional Round of the playoffs and missing is bad enough, but to make it even worse by doing an interview on National TV could ultimately cost Cody Parkey his job.
On Monday, Chicago Bears GM and head coach Matt Nagy held a press conference to talk about numerous things that included Parkey and his TODAY show interview and the importance of the kicker position.
General manager Ryan Pace had this to say:
“That position is an emphasis for us,” he said. “We understand we need to get better, get more production out of that position. Matt talks about it all the time: There’s so much parity in our league, so many close games, the kicker position is critical. We know we need to get better there and it’ll be an area of focus.”
On whether Parkey would Parkey would continue to be on the roser:
“Those are things that need to play out as we go into it,” he said.
Matt Nagy with some very pointed comments on the Cody Parkey Today show appearance:
“I didn’t think that was too much of a ‘we’ thing.”

All that’s left for the Bears to do is officially cut Cody Parkey and eat the dead money ($4,437,500).
