BREAKING: Chiefs G Laurent Duvernay-Tardif Opts Out Of 2020 Season

Chiefs starting right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif announced via his Twitter account on Friday that he’s opting out of the 2020 season.

Chiefs’ starting RG @LaurentDTardif is the first NFL player to opt out of his contract due to COVID-19. Duvernay-Tardif will not play this year and instead will continue to work as an orderly at a long-term care facility in Canada, helping fight COVID-19. pic.twitter.com/QBpKCHaFUV

Less than three months after helping the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory as their starting right guard, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif put his doctorate in medicine to use by fighting the coronavirus outbreak at a longterm care facility in Quebec.

In 2019, Duvernay-Tardif appeared in 14 games for the Chiefs and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 47 overall guard out of 81 qualifying players.
