Todd Gurley has played his last game for the Los Angeles Rams. Gurley signed a four-year, $60 million contract extension with Los Angeles in July 2018, and less than two years, the team has cut him.
The Georgia product was an All-Pro in 2017 and 2018, but his production dropped significantly in 2019. He tallied a career-low 1,064 yards from scrimmage in 2019, but he did put up 14 touchdowns.
Gurley missed the final two regular-season games and only had 16 combined touches in the Rams two postseasn matchups, which lead to speculation that he was injured.
His then-backfield mate CJ Anderson revealed the following on Fox Sports 1:
“[Gurley] was really more hurt than what we thought,” Anderson said in February 2019. “The injury was a little bit more than what everybody in the building thought, including himself.”
“Obviously, it’s the same knee injury he’s had before in his career. Obviously, I had surgery on my meniscus and once you have a knee [injury], you always have a knee [injury]. So it aggravates, and he was getting a lot of touches earlier in the year—obviously, him being one of the best backs, that probably was the case.”
He now gets a fresh start with a new team.
