The cost made no sense for a team that doesn’t expect to do a lot of winning in 2023, so they sent him to free agency.
The Cleveland Browns have been mentioned as a possible landing location for wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins during the summer. A reunion with former colleague Deshaun Watson appeared to be on the table, albeit the prospects did not appear to be great.
Whether or not the Browns are serious about signing Hopkins has been talked about well before he was cut. Deshaun Watson has already said he would like him to join the Browns, but it appears like he will not get his wishes met.
Per Mary Kay Cabot, it’s a “longshot” that the Browns will sign Hopkins since he’s not scheduled to visit them and they’re not looking to add another top wideout.
“With Hopkins kicking off his free agent tour Sunday with the Titans, the Browns have not yet scheduled a visit with the five-time Pro Bowler, and might not do so until his market cools considerably.”
Titans head coach Mike Vrabel was on the coaching staff of the Houston Texans when Hopkins was there, so the two are familiar. The Titans also have one of the worst sets of wide receivers in the NFL this year, so Hopkins could step in and be their top target.
The Titans might look like they are headed for a rebuild as illustrated by seven straight losses to end last season, but adding Hopkins would be an attempt to try to remain competitive.
