On Wednesday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport identified the Carolina Panthers as a ‘dark horse’ team in the race to obtain the talented pro bowl QB. He also mentioned that the Panthers were interested in acquiring Matthew Stafford from the Lions before he ultimately got traded to the Los Angeles Rams.
Rapoport noted that the Panthers can either make a trade for Deshaun Watson, or use their No. 8 overall pick to try and get one in the draft.
Houston Texans beat writer John McClain recently laid out a starting point for what the Texans may want in a trade: two first-round picks, two second-round picks and two starting defensive players in return for Watson.
Aside from sending Teddy Bridgewater and the No. 8 pick, the Panthers really don’t have much else that would interest the Texans.
It was just in March 2020 when the Panthers signed quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to a three-year contract, but he finished with a 4-11 record while tossing 3,733 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He also rushed for 279 yards and five touchdowns.
